When composing his work SEE U IN BUDAPEST, Belgian composer Johan Nijs had a very specific story in mind: two good friends are separated from each other for a long time because their lives took different paths. Every year, however, the two of them reunite when numerous people from all over the world return to their beloved hometown for a grand celebration.
SEE U IN BUDAPEST is divided into two large formal sections: The beginning of the work is majestic and sublime. It is characterised by melancholy and a wistful mood. Before our mind’s eye, we see the vastness of the Puszta, the steppe landscape so typical of Hungary. The second part, on the other hand, sounds in the style of the Csárdás - a traditional Hungarian dance - and builds up to a rousing finale with increasingly fast, wild sequences of steps and turns. Even if the trip "home" is very brief, next year is sure to come: SEE U IN BUDAPEST!
BASIC SOUND
From S to XXL – Music for any band instrumentation
"Basic Sound" is a series by RUNDEL Music Publications offering an attractive and diversified repertoire to bands at grade 2 or 3 level, of sizes S to XXL. "Basic Sound" allows for performances by groups with limited instrumentation. Minimun requirements are clearly bracketed in the score.
The smallest size (S) of "Basic Sound" is based on the following instruments:
one (1) flute, two (2) clarinets, one (1) alto-saxophone, two (2) trumpets, one (1) trombone, one (1) baritone/euphonium, one (1) tuba and percussion.
Each edition also includes a full set of parts (XXL). That way the conductor can adjust the pieces of the "Basic Sound" series to his band's instrumentation.
