Elvis Presley, son of a farm worker, was one of the most successful and highest paid musicians and entertainers in pop history. Around 500 million LP records and singles had been sold by the time he died, and gold trophies were awarded for more than 100 singles and 40 LP records. The number of sales has now risen to one billion. As an actor, he also appeared in over 30 Hollywood films. His music style was a mix of Country, Blues, Gospel and Rock 'n' Roll. In 1977 he died at the age of 42 after personal and artistic crises on his Graceland estate in Memphis (Tennessee). However, his popularity, especially in the 1950s and 1960s, remained unbroken even after his death.
