Where Our Banner Flies (March)
Là où flotte notre drapeau (Marche)
Info
It must not be emphasized that Johann Strauss II did not compose any original literature for band during his lifetime, though his works constitute and indispensable part in the repertory for wind bands, especially when taking into consideration that his musical output boasts many a fine march. ”The Goddess of Reason”, which was premiered in March 1897, was the last operetta which Johann Strauss II completed himself. It was not too successful a production and therefore was taken from the theater repertory after 36 performances. The score, however, contained some fine material which usually was arranged by Strauss himself later on. The best-known example is the march Wo uns’re Fahne weht (Where Our Banner Flies), Op. 437, one of the most inspiring marches from the pen of the waltz king.
