As early as April 9, 1946, the Austrian government decreed to make the tune of Mozart’s Masonic chaing song the tune of the Austrian federal anthem. The government also organized a contest for the lyrics. On February 25, 1947 the words by Paula von Preradoviæ (1881-1951) - Land of the mountains, land at the river - together with Mozart’s tune were declared the new Austrian federal anthem.
