With his composition IMPULS, Martin Scharnagl presents a concert march for all those who are looking for something traditional but are open to new things. In his memorable musical style, the Tyrolean composer creates two expressive themes with contrasting characters: the first theme is playful and light, the second, on the other hand, is songful and sublime. Both, however, are united by a harmonious setting that surprises with numerous creative turns. The bass solo also is characterised by this harmonic refinement. It takes up the rhythmic elements of the main theme and elaborates on them in a skillful manner. With this piece, Martin Scharnagl succeeds in creating a special listening experience that gives all associations, orchestras, conductors, and listeners the IMPULS(E) to hopefully look upon the future (of wind music).
