Born 4 horn was composed for the occasion of the 2014 LIVA Brass Festival in Linz (Austria), at which the spotlight was put on the French horn. Born4horn was premiered at the opening concert of the festival by the Ried Symphonic Band, along with 120 horn players from music schools from Upper-Austria. (YouTube: SBO Ried – Born4Horn).
The piece can be performed with three or four horns; the fourth horn part is conceived as a low voice in order to present the exceptionally wide range of the instrument. Born 4 horn is written in Fritz Neuböck’s fresh and innovating style, and is a fine new addition to the classical wind band repertoire for horn players.
