Johann Rudolph Ahle (1625-1673) was a Protestant church musician, organist, composer and poet. His oeuvre has been nearly completely preserved; it includes sectarian vocal and organ music, clerical instrumental music, a document about music theory, and many poems and lyrics. In the composition „Vorspiel und Choral“ (Prelude and Chorale) Alfred Bösendorfer used a theme written by Johann Rudolph Ahle (1664) for the hymn “Dearest Jesus, we are here” (Liebster Jesu, wir sind hier). Bösendorfer created a beautiful and touching piece for concert band, which is perfect for festive as well as religious occasions.
