Overture for Winds and Percussion The piece MUSIC CIRCLE was commissioned by the Blasmusikverband Tirol for the 10th Jugendblasorchesterwettbewerb 2021. The work is rich in variety. It is composed in the form of an overture and combines different musical moods.
After a short opening, bar 5 introduces the first theme, which has a festive, solemn character and is particularly suitable for practicing legato playing with the orchestra. From bar 21 onwards, the theme is given a rhythmic accompaniment in the style of a march. A small solo percussion passage leads into the part beginning in bar 39 and processes the thematic material in the form of a pop ballad. A second theme, appearing for the first time in bar 49, creatively continues the previous musical ideas. The motif of the introduction finally ends the piece as festively as it began. The musical circle closes.
The composition MUSIC CIRCLE offers an excellent opportunity for young musicians to make music together for the first time in an ensemble - a musical circle. In addition, the ring – as another word for circle - stands for solidarity and togetherness: values that usually make musicians remain loyal to their band for a lifetime.
