This overture by the Dutch composer Hans van der Heide was especially written as commissioned work for band contests and competitions. Apart from that this FESTIVAL OVERTURE was to communicate enjoyment and fun in making music. Next to fanfare-like episodes and such that are rich in musical contrast, it also contains beautifully tuneful sections.

Hans van der Heide was born in Den Helder (The Netherlands) on December 22, 1958. He studied trumpet at the Sweelinck University of Music in Amsterdam, and, immediately upon graduation he joined the ranks of The Royal Military Band of the Netherlands in The Hague. For many years he was active as the band’s chief staff arranger. Another diploma conferred upon him by the Royal University of Music of The Hague was that of “conductor”. In addition he continued his studies with Marcel Peeters in Belgium. Next to writing musical arrangements, the major focus of Hans van der Heide’s activities is now concentrated on composing.
