Solo for Drums
Normally you take a DRIVING TEST in order to get a driving licence. But naturally this Explora composition by Luigi di Ghisallo has nothing to do with driving lessons, road signs or correct behaviour in traffic, but rather with music. You could also call this DRIVING TEST a “drummer test”, as the percussionists are the soloists and have the opportunity to prove themselves.
Good drummers do not simply play their parts, but also guide the ensemble through their tempo and dynamics. A wind player should have the feeling that he is being carried along on a “rhythmical bed”. This naturally places great technical and musical demands on the percussionist. These abilities can all be practiced and demonstrated in the DRIVING TEST.
