- Rhapsody for Concert Band - “A Day of Hope” opens with an optimistic trumpet fanfare, repeated by the full brass section, after which the main theme of the introduction is presented by woodwinds with dance-like sentiment. A baritone solo leads, like a recitative, into the romantic middle section, then a solo trumpet offers a melody which is assumed by the full ensemble.
The work concludes with a grand march in the British military style. Here the animated first theme becomes very lyrical and noble. Short quotes of the introductory fanfare appear as the piece comes to a majestic and hopeful finale.
“A Day of Hope” speaks for peace and justice. It is a clearly uplifting piece, reflecting the positive influence of music in each theme.
