Toledo is located in central Spain, not far from the capital city Madrid. The history of this city goes back to the time before Christ, and accordingly there are numerous important buildings from a wide variety of eras. When the composer Stefan Schwalgin visited Toledo, he was so fascinated by the ever-present contrast between ancient history and modern urban life that he spontaneously decided to create a small musical monument to the city. His composition “Toledo” uses the harmonic-melodic language of traditional Spanish music and dresses it in the stylistic garb of modern popular music.
Some of the ensemble's musicians are featured as soloists in this composition: first, the two trumpets 'whirl' in a spirited duet with lots of eighth notes (which are, however, extremely easy to play). Then the drum set provides a brilliant rhythmic interlude that will captivate any audience. Now it's time to head to Toledo!
