The overture “Mit der Kraft der Musik” (“With the Power of Music”) was originally commissioned by the Hebel Foundation Basel. The Hebel Foundation “presented” this work to the ensemble “Hebelmusik Hausen” on the occasion of its 150th anniversary in 2005.
In his conception of this work, the composer Markus Götz had in mind all musicians who devote their leisure time to music, be it in the “Hebelmusik Hausen” or in other wind ensembles elsewhere. After working hard during the day, it is not always easy to find the motivation for an evening’s rehearsal. But the activity and pleasure of making music together release energies which can be experienced nowhere else. This “power of music” develops independently of the style of music played and has an effect which continues long after the rehearsal or concert.
The composition “Mit der Kraft der Musik” (“With the Power of Music”) begins in the introduction with powerful brass signals which give way to an impulsive march section. The woodwind play a calm, meditative chorale which is taken up by the whole ensemble before the piece ends in a brilliant coda.
