Info

The melody of "Is schon still uman See" was written by Günther Mittergradnegger. As a composer and conductor, he treasured his love for the Alpine folk song. The theologian, folklorist and painter Gerhard Glawischnig created the song’s lyrics. The two artists cultivated a friendship that lasted for years and developed into an intensive collaboration. In the years after 1945, the "New Carinthian Song", a kind of Alpine folk song, developed in the Alpine region and was influenced especially by Mittergradneegger and Glawischnig. Their lyrics and melodies are seen as a resounding confession to their homeland.

Inspired by the scenic landscape around Carinthia’s lake Faakersee, Gerhard Glawischnig wrote the lyrics to “Is scho still uman See” in 1956. His friend Günter Mittergradnegger set the words to music in very short time. Today, the song is considered the Carinthian song par excellence.

Note: The audio sample is the ENSEMBLE version, not the wind band version!
