Comedy March
In his comedy march “East-West-East”, American composer James L.Hosay confronts two different worlds: The United States (West) and Russia (East). In musically opposing figures the two (music) cultures clash. Finally they cooperate: elements of the famous American march “The Stars and Stripes Forever” resound in Russian minor style. Last but not least “East-West-East” offers some humorous choreography for the conductor and band. The conductor mocks the saxophones, has to grapple with stubborn flute players and in the end storms off the stage after the piccolo player screws up the big finale of the march.
