Alfred Pechau was born in Bergen near Magdeburg on December 23, 1921. Between 1936 and 1940 he studied clarinet and saxophone with Erich Banse in Rätzlingen (Altmark). Afterwards, Alfred Pechau became musician at the Air Force and later served at the Central Band of the NVA in the German Democratic Republic. This inspection march made Pechau famous as a composer. On July 12, 2008, he died in Berlin at the age of 86.
