Adolf Scherzer, a Bavarian military musician, wrote the "Bayerischer Defiliermarsch" in Ingolstadt in 1850. Originally the march was dedicated to the regiment in Ingolstadt and therefore carried the title "Ingolstädter Parademarsch". It is said that the Bavarian King Ludwig II. decided to chose the march as "Bayerischer Defiliermarsch". Until today this unmistakable march is the musical symbol of the Free State of Bavaria and is regarded as its "secret national anthem".
