Jaroslav Zeman, a former Czech military band director, definitely has the right feeling for a Czech polka. The polka surely is not out-of-date and not restricted to a fossilized repertory. There rather are charming new contributions to this type of music which meet with general approval. Together with the “March of the City of Písek” by Ulrich which, believe it or not, was altered to become “The Astronauts’ March”, the Czech city of Písek was therefore honored by a second piece of music, a charming polka which the city may well be proud of.
