EL CARTERO is a vivacious paso doble with a very lyrical Trio.
The piece was commissioned by a Dutch orchestra. One of the musicians acted as contact between the orchestra and the composer Hans van der Heide. This volunteer had to run to and for numerous times to deliver messages, finding his hands full. So the idea developed to title the piece EL CARTERO, or „the postman“. It is dedicated to the devoted musician.
Hans van der Heide was born on the 22nd of December 1958, in Den Helder, Holland. He studied Trumpet at the “Sweelinck Conservatorium” in Amsterdam, and was soon appointed principal Trumpet with the “Royal Military Band” in The Hague. At the Royal Conservatory in The Hague, he then graduated as Bandmaster, followed by studies with Marcel Peeters in Belgium.
For a long period of time, Hans van der Heide has been working as Staff-arranger for the “Royal Military Band”, and is still working as arranger for the “Netherlands Wind Ensemble” and various Symphony Orchestras in the Netherlands. At the moment, he studies composition at the Conservatory in Rotterdam (Codarts) with Klaas de Vries, and is merely working as a composer and arranger.
