Major Ernst Herzog was born in Saalfelden in 1959. He studied at the Mozarteum University of Music with Prof. Bruce Holcomb and Prof. Manfred Hopfert from the Symphony Orchestra of the Bavarian Broadcasting Corp. as well as direction of wind band with Prof. Emil Rieder. In 1994 he passed the diploma examination for his major instrument, the tuba. After graduation he embarked on the military training program to become an officer in the military music career field. In February 1998 Ernst Herzog passed the army examination for Military Directors of Music. As of May 1999 he was appointed Leader of the Military Band of the Vorarlberg Military Command. On April 1, 2000 he took over the baton of the Tyrol Military Band, and finally, on December 1, 2000, he became Leader and Commander of the Salzburg Military Band, a position he is still currently occupying.
