Water! Elixir of life and force of nature. Sparkling, flowing, powerfully foaming-a valuable resource. The crystal clear, tranquil mountain lakes. The wild and savage roaring waterfalls. The bizarre, intriguing tiny trickles. The dangerous, rushing streams. Water in all its forms is a menacing beauty of mesmerising nature.
Man is no match for water. Water enters his habitat, is kept at bay by its inhabitants, yet still finds a way back to conquer his land, is tamed through technology and through it all remains unpredictable.
The small Tyrolean town of Mils, in Austria, has its own unique history with the wild Larsenn creek. Under continual threat from its turbulent waters, the dangers of the creek for the small village could only be overcome after several disasters and floods. The composition Wild Waters takes up the story and presents the conflicting elements of danger and beauty at its heart.
Wild Waters was commissioned by the Mils near Imst Brass Band, conducted by Hannes Nagiller and is a compulsory piece in the B level of the regional competition at the 2015 Tyrolean Brass Band Association in Innsbruck.
