The eight chorale arrangements presented here relate to hymns that are known and valued in both major Christian denominations. The pieces can be used in the context of the liturgy as well as in spiritual concerts. In both cases, use as a chorale prelude in the true sense of the word as well as an independent contribution is conceivable. The combination with other movements for the same chorale melody (choir movements, organ pieces, orchestral works ...) up to the formation of suites is also attractive. For the sake of completeness, it should be pointed out that these chorale arrangements are not accompanying songs.
All pieces quote the song melody in the sense of a "cantus firmus" two or three times in a row. The melody can always be recognized by the audience, even if it appears ornate or wanders through the various parts. It was important to include all three voices in the musical process with interesting, often contrapuntal, tasks. The main part (to be emphasized) has been marked in the score.
A performance by Bb trumpets was primarily thought of. The pieces are also very suitable for French horns. On a case-by-case basis, it would then be necessary to check whether reading in F or Eb (range of the first part!). Of course, the pieces can be played as soloists or choirs. Both have their charm.
