Kinya Matsuura offers in this dramatic work a variety of musical elements that are inspired by the sound of Japanese folk music. Multiple meters, crisp rhythmic punctuations and expansive lyricism combine to make this a mature sounding work that is not unnecessarily difficult to perform. It is full of solid teaching points and certain to be an audience favorite.
Kinya Matsuura (*1938) graduated from the Hokkaido University of Education. During his teaching career, he has been active both as a composer and an arranger. „Han-Nya“ was selected as a test piece fort he 1996 All Japan Band Contest, and has also been received very favorably in the United States.
