Scott Joplin is regarded as one of the founders of classical ragtime. The strictly rhythmic character, the zestful harmonies and impulsive dynamics of this genre find perfect expression in his numerous ragtimes, of which the “Maple Leaf Rag” (1899), "The Easy Winners" (1901) and “The Entertainer” (1902) are the best known examples.
