Everybody knows the canon „Bruder Jakob“. A canon is one of the oldest musical forms and good for singing. Everybody sings the same melody in certain bar intervals. Kees Vlak made the Kanon a little more complicated and diversified by starting the melodies on different notes and combining them with short interludes. „Shufflin’ Canon“ is a modern canon in Swing style with polyphonic elements and a "shufflin'" drum rhythm. After 28 bars it transforms to Jazz style with walking bass, solo parts and background riffs. Eight bars later we hear a string big band sound and again eight bars later the theme appears in the bass and is accompanied by snap. In the finale the polyphony is once more shown to its best advantage.
