Zdenek Lukaš (1928-2007) has composed more than 300 opuses including symphonies, stage music and vocal music and has arrived at a personally-expressive style stemming from the Czech musical thinking and especially folk music but also enriched with carefully selected elements of 20th century music.
In the field of wind music, Zdenek Lukaš has been praised particularly for his monumental "Sinfonia Brevis" which had been selected as compulsary composition at the World Festival of Wind Bands at Kerkrade in 1997. However, he also writes smaller-scales, occasional pieces. "Musica Bohemica" is a typical example of his output. The title of this composition suggests that it has been inspired by Czech folk tradition, more specifically by three Czech folk songs.
