Frantisek Kmoch was born in Kolín in 1848 and received his musical education in Prag. He became director in Krakow in 1884, one year later in Budapeset and 1899 in Vienna. After he founded his own string and wind orchestra he became good reputation in the musical world. This orchestra played not only his own compositions but also Austrian music with his specific Czech style, what made him famous all over Europe. Frantisek Kmoch is one of the most famous Czech composers and is still regarded as "King of Marches". He Died in his hometown Kolín in 1912 at the age of 64. In his honor they celebrate the "Kmoch Festival" each year.
