During the second half of the 19th century there were indications of a budding Belgian national music at least in the field of sacred organ music. Nicolas Jacques Lemmens (1823-1881) was active as organ teacher in Brussels, and in 1879 he founded the "École de Musique Religieuse" in Mechelen which later became the renowned Lemmens Institute. His ”Fanfare” neither can nor wants to deny the master of the organ.
