Info

When writing this overture, the composer was inspired by the spirit of Czech music such as it has come to us as the great legacy of Smetana and Dvorák. The dance episodes of the piece therefore do not deny their Bohemian descent and consequently easily remind us of scenes from the opera “The Bartered Bride”.

At the beginning of our “Wedding Overture” an entry march is heard, followed by a rural dance of the village people – both tunes played in honor of the young bridal pair.
After a festive lunch bride and groom retire to the banks of the Vltava – a romance is played and the distant wedding bell tolls.
In the evening, the lavishly decorated village hall turns out to be the location for exuberant feasting and dancing until the early morning hours.
Finally the overture concludes with the bridal march which was already introduced at the beginning of the piece. This time, however, accompanied by the sound of bells as well as the laughter and merriment of friends and the village people.
