Tampa Bay began as a military post in 1804, and eventually became the base for Teddy Roosevelt's Rough Rifers to take off for Cuba. With its Spanish influence, Tampa Bay became an important center during the pioneers days of the cigar industry, and a place where the walthy came to vacation at the famous Tampa Bay Hotel.
Tampa Bay has always presented a fascinating panorama of development. From its burstling port; prividing an important link to foreign countries, to its beautiful beaches and palm trees; making it one of America's favorite recreation areas.
Today, Tampa exist as a modern city of commerce, industry and culture. SOUTHWINDS seeks to portray the majesty, activity and beauty of this thriving metropolis. As the tropical winds blow through the majestic palms of Tampa Bay, so too have the winds of change affected this area through the years.
