The Sleighbell Tinkle · En traîneau
Petersburg Sleigh Ride

Richard Eilenberg was born on January 13, 1848 in Merseburg. As a musician, concert tours took him through many parts of Europe in the 19th century. After an invitation from the Russian Tsar, Richard Eilenberg was commissioned to compose the coronation march to celebrate the enthronement of Emperor Alexander III. Afterwards, the composer often stayed in Saint Petersburg and was probably inspired to his “Petersburg sleigh ride” in the Russian winter. In 1886 he composed the lively orchestral piece, which is still one of the most popular works of light music today. In the “Lexicon of German Schlager” this characteristic gallop is even listed as the oldest song in this category.

Stefan Schwalgin has now arranged this “classic” of winter entertainment music for the needs of today's wind orchestras.

Have fun!
