Josef Bönisch studied at the Conservatory in Weimar and at the University of Music in Leipzig. As a flutist he was active in several orchestras and led various music groups. From 1976, Josef Bönisch was a teacher for flute, recorder and chamber music at the conservatory in the Handel city of Halle. His compositional output includes works for wind chamber music and a large number of original compositions for wind bands. For his artistic work he received, among other things, the Pestalozzi Medal in silver, the Badge of Honor for services in artistic folk creativity, the Sudeten German Culture Prize 1999, the composition prize "Wind Music 2000" of the Music Association of Upper and Lower Bavaria and in 2006 the composition prize for beginner literature.
