Ichiro Sakai | Composers

Ichiro Sakai was commissioned Lieutenant Colonel in 1999 after graduating from the Tokyo University of the Arts graduate school. His military assignments include Chief of the Performance Section in the Northern Army Band (Sapporo), Chief of the Performance Division, the Planning Division, the Education Division, Executive Officer of the Central Band, Commander of the 2nd Combined Brigade Band (currently the 14th Band, Kagawa), the 14th Band (Kagawa), the Middle Army Band (Itami) and the North-eastern Army Band (Sendai). He was instated at Tokyo University of the Arts as an auditor in 2009 and was appointed as Executive Officer of the Central Band in March 2020. Lieutenant Colonel Sakai studied trumpet with Naohiro Tsuken, Mineo Suguki, and Yoshiaki Fukuda as well as conducting with Hiroyuki Onoda. He is a member of the Japanese Band Directors Association.
