George Frederick Handel was a German composer in the Baroque era. His musical talent was recognized early on. When he was only eight years old, he presented his organ skills to the Duke of Saxony-Weißfels. The Duke convinced Handel's parents to encourage the boy's talent. As a young man, Handel went to Hamburg and played second violin in the new opera "Am Gänsemarkt". His first works have also been performed there. After a while, however, he moved to Italy and then to London. There he became director of the “Royal Academy of Music” and composed numerous operas and oratorios during this time. Handel became more and more blind towards the end of his life. He died in his London apartment in 1759 at the age of 74.
George Frederic Handel composed 42 operas, 25 oratorios, cantatas, serenades, hymns and numerous instrumental music.
His most famous works include the "Hallelujah" from the oratorio "Messiah", the Music for the Royal Fireworks and the Water Music.
