British Folk Music Settings No. 34
(Original 1940 / Copyright renewed 1993)
One of the absolute gems in the entire worldwide repertoire for wind bands, Lincolnshire Posy remains at the pinnacle for all bands who believe themselves ready to prove their artistic worth. It is this work that has literally been responsible for inspiring thousands of aspiring musicians to become directors of bands, orchestras, and choruses, thus fostering a lifetime of love of and respect for music. Grainger recorded authentic performances of folk singers in England between 1905 and 1906. From this material he created these six movements that are individual musical portraits.
Includes:
1. Lisbon (Sailor's Song)
2. Harkstow Grange (The Miser an his Man: A Local Tragedy)
3. Rufford Park Poachers (Poaching Song)
4. The Brisk Young Sailer (who returned to wed his True Love)
5. Lord Melbourne (War Song)
6. The Lost Lady Found (Dance Song)
