für Klarinette, Bassetthorn und Blasorchester
Concertpiece No. 1
Info
The Concertpieces number 1 and 2 by Felix Mendelssohn-Bartholdy were created through the encounter and friendship with the clarinetist Heinrich Joseph Baermann and his son Carl. On his big trip to Europe in 1831, the young composer became friends with the Munich clarinet virtuosos, and there were some humorous correspondence as a result. When Heinrich Joseph and Carl Baermann visited Berlin, they met for a cooking and composing activity. A corresponding entry can be found in the Baermann family book. In Mendelssohn's Berlin residence, the Baermanns were supposed to prepare steamed dumplings and cream strudel, for which the composer wrote the two concert pieces. This resulted in small miniature concerts in three short movements that flow into one another, which in their humorous, virtuosic and sonorous manner are also an impressive testament to the Baermanns' art.
