Composer Thorsten Wollmann (*1966) has lived in Thailand for many years, but enjoys returning to his home in Southern Germany every once in a while. There are many things he did not previously appreciate but now notices very clearly when visiting his native land, mostly the European scenery and tradition-rich culture. Wollmann likes to include these aspects in his musical works. In “Die Rheinreise” (Journey along the Rhine River) he musically drafts the course of the Rhine River from the Swiss Alps over the Rhine Falls near Schaffhausen, through the Rhine valley with its beautiful castles, until the impressive river finally flows into the German Sea. With this composition Wollmann confirms his reputation as a “painter of sounds” and creates a beautiful musical picture of the Rhine River with colourful and vivid tonal language.
Parts of “Journey along the Rhine River”:
- At the Paradies Glacier
- The Reinquellhorn
- At the riverside of the Alpenrhein
- Rhine Theme
- Medieval townscape of Strasbourg
- The Marksburg near Coblenz
- Romantic Rhine
- In the Cologne Cathedral
- On the Lower Rhine
