"Desafinado" (meaning off-tune in Portuguese) is a bossa nova by Brazilian composer Antonio Carlos Jobim from 1958. This piece was the author's ironic response to the music critics who described the bossa nova as off-tune after hearing the single "Chega de Saudade" (1958), claiming that this musical genre was not suitable for loud crooners. "Desafinado" was originally presented in a very intimate and soft way. It was performed and covered by many famous artists, such as Ella Fitzgerald, Herb Alpert, Dizzy Gillespie, Quincy Jones, Peter Kraus and Frank Sinatra.
